Safeguarding Children

Safeguarding children and young people is everyone's business!

This means that all voluntary and community organisations need to understand their roles and responsibilities in keeping children and young people safe from harm, and be able to do all they can to play their part in this.

YOW works, on behalf of the voluntary and community sector, in close partnership with all the agencies in the city that work to keep children and young people safe. This partnership of agencies is called Wolverhampton Safeguarding Children Board (WSCB).

YOW supports its members to safeguard children and young people by:

  • Providing one-to-one advice and support on safeguarding matters (including: developing a safeguarding policy and procedures, recruiting volunteers and paid staff safely, Disclosure and Barring Service checks - DBS checks {formerly CRBs})
  • Promoting free multi-agency safeguarding training offered by WSCB
  • Promoting the NSPCC's Safeguarding toolkit
  • Circulating safeguarding information updates
  • Co-ordinating information briefings, workshops and events to enable YOW members and others to:
    • Stay up to date with safeguarding matters
    • Be involved in influencing safeguarding priorities for the city.
  • Representing a voluntary and community sector (VCS) perspective on the Wolverhampton Safeguarding Children Board (WCSB)
  • Co-ordinating VCS representation on WCSB sub groups and involvement in partnership working relating to safeguarding.
